About this position
Stockholm University is recruiting PhD student(s) in Biochemistry for the project “Mechanistic Studies of Bioenergetic Protein Complexes” within the ERC-Advanced Grant project bioEnergetic.
The research focuses on bioenergetic protein complexes, membrane-bound enzymes in respiratory chains, redox energy conversion, proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET), and electrical field effects in protein function. The work combines biochemical, biophysical, and structural approaches such as cryo-EM, spectroscopy, proteoliposome experiments, site-directed mutagenesis, and/or multiscale molecular simulations including QM/MM, atomistic molecular dynamics, free energy methods, and machine learning.
Applicants with experimental and/or computational training are encouraged to apply. The department seeks highly motivated candidates with strong English skills, analytical ability, collaboration skills, creativity, initiative, and independence. Prior experience in biochemical methods or computational methods applied to proteins/biological membranes is important.
The position is a fixed-term doctoral employment at Stockholm University, full time, with a maximum duration corresponding to four years of doctoral education. The employment is initially for up to one year and may then be renewed for up to two years at a time.
Work is located at the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, Stockholm University, Stockholm, Sweden. The application deadline is 2026-11-03.
