About this position
Stockholm University is advertising a Postdoctoral Fellow in Mechanistic Studies of Bioenergetic Membrane Protein Complexes within the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics and the ERC-Advanced Grant project bioEnergetic.
The project focuses on the mechanistic basis of biological energy conversion in membrane-bound enzymes from mitochondrial and bacterial respiratory chains. Research topics include redox energy capture, long-range proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET), and the role of electrical field effects in protein function and dynamics.
Researchers with computational and/or experimental expertise are encouraged to apply. The work combines biophysical methods, structural biology, mutagenesis, spectroscopy, proteoliposome experiments, cryo-EM, multiscale molecular simulations, QM/MM, atomistic molecular dynamics, free energy methods, and machine learning.
The position is based in Stockholm, Sweden, and will be carried out in the interdisciplinary Kaila Lab with close interaction with PhD students, postdocs, and senior scientists.
Eligibility: applicants must hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent relevant degree from another country by the time the employment decision is made. A recent PhD, excellent publication record, strong English skills, analytical ability, teamwork, creativity, initiative, and independence are important selection criteria. Prior training in molecular biophysics and/or computational biophysical methods applied to complex biological systems is an advantage.
Employment: full-time temporary appointment for 2–3 years, with possible extension under special circumstances. Salary is individually set.
Deadline: 21 October 2026.
How to apply: submit the application through Stockholm University’s recruitment system and attach a personal letter and CV, plus any other requested documents.
