About this position

PhD student opportunity at Lund University in chromatin biology, genome integrity, DNA damage response, and epigenomics.

The Chromatin & Genome Integrity Lab at the Stem Cell Center and Department of Experimental Medical Science, Faculty of Medicine, Lund University, is recruiting a doctoral student to study how chromatin structure is maintained during the cellular response to DNA damage and how these mechanisms protect genome and epigenome integrity in human cells.

The project combines cell biology, biochemistry, high-content imaging, and state-of-the-art genomic and epigenomic approaches. The successful candidate will work with human cells and stem cell-derived neuronal models to investigate chromatin dynamics and the chromatin-based mechanisms that preserve (epi)genome integrity and prevent disease.

Supervisor: Dr. Giulia Saredi (Chromatin & Genome Integrity Lab, Lund University).

Eligibility highlights: a second-cycle degree or equivalent, at least 240 higher education credits including 60 at second-cycle level, plus strong experience in chromatin biology, DNA repair, human cell culture, iPSC culture, molecular cloning, western blotting, quantitative image-based microscopy, genome stability assays, and cell survival assays after genotoxic treatment. Strong English skills, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently and in a team are required.

Funding/employment: fixed-term doctoral employment for 4 years at 100% employment. The post is based in Lund, Sweden, and the university states that work is expected to be performed on site.

How to apply: submit your application through Lund University’s recruitment system. Include a personal letter, CV, degree certificate, and the names and contact details of two references.

Deadline: 2026-10-04.
