About this position
Doctoral Researcher position in Climate–Land–Environment Interactions at the University of Luxembourg, within the Luxembourg Centre for Socio-Environmental Systems (LCSES). The project focuses on how land management measures can improve sustainability and climate adaptability, using local case studies from regions of the Global South.
The PhD is part of the Climate Nexus Framework project and aims to advance understanding of coupled human–environment systems through indicators such as soil, water, biodiversity, and ecosystem services. The research also connects climate adaptation and mitigation strategies with climate finance prioritization.
Possible directions include developing methods to study transferability and scaling of land management approaches, exploring interactions between land, climate, and environmental processes, and creating composite metrics that support environmental stewardship and socio-economic resilience.
Applicants should have a master’s degree in environmental sciences, engineering, geography, landscape ecology, agriculture sciences, or a related field. Strong skills in Python and R are expected, along with experience analyzing environmental monitoring data, satellite observations, and qualitative information. Experience with AI-based document synthesis is an advantage.
The position is a full-time fixed-term doctoral contract for 36 months. The annual gross salary is EUR 44,531. The role is based at Belval Campus, Luxembourg. Applicants must show at least B2-level proficiency in the language of the thesis.
