PhD opportunity in computational materials science within the European project REFFRACTEUR, focused on predicting microcracking in refractory materials using advanced numerical modelling and the Discrete Element Method (DEM).
The project topic is a virtual laboratory for microcrack prediction in refractory ceramics. Research themes include thermomechanical modelling of refractory materials, microstructure–damage relationships, crack prediction, advanced numerical simulations with DEM (GranOO), experimental validation, and digital twin approaches.
The successful PhD candidate will work between IRCER laboratory, University of Limoges, France, and industrial partner Imerys. The position is part of a broader MSCA Doctoral Network / Industrial Doctorate training environment in refractory materials, digital tools, and academia-industry collaboration.
Eligibility: MSc in Materials Science, Computational Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Strong numerical skills are valued, and Python/C++ is a plus. Applicants must also respect the MSCA mobility rule: they must not have resided in France for more than 12 months during the last 3 years.
