PhD in Computational Materials Science for Microcrack Prediction in Refractory Ceramics

PhD opportunity in computational materials science within the European project REFFRACTEUR , focused on predicting microcracking in refractory materials using advanced numerical modelling and the Discrete Element Method (DEM) . The project topic is a virtual laboratory for microcrack prediction in refractory ceramics . Research themes include thermomechanical modelling of refractory materials, microstructure–damage relationships , crack prediction, advanced numerical simulations with DEM (GranOO) , experimental validation, and digital twin approaches. The successful PhD candidate will work between IRCER laboratory, University of Limoges, France , and industrial partner Imerys . The position is part of a broader MSCA Doctoral Network / Industrial Doctorate training environment in refractory materials, digital tools, and academia-industry collaboration. Eligibility: MSc in Materials Science , Computational Mechanics , Mechanical Engineering , or a related field. Strong numerical skills are valued, and Python/C++ is a plus. Applicants must also respect the MSCA mobility rule: they must not have resided in France for more than 12 months during the last 3 years.
