About this position
Doctoral student in condensed matter physics at Lund University, Department of Physics, Sweden.
This PhD project is based in the Division of Synchrotron Radiation Research and focuses on thermal transport in crystals, especially the thermal Hall effect, magnetic field effects, quantum materials, and the role of thermal carriers in condensed matter systems. The work combines experimental studies of electronic, structural, and chemical properties of materials with inelastic neutron scattering, synchrotron- and neutron-based techniques, and laboratory experiments. A large part of the project will be carried out at the Institut Laue-Langevin in Grenoble, France, with links to MAX IV Laboratory and the European Spallation Source.
The position is a doctoral studentship (full-time, fixed-term employment) for 4 years, with possible extension for teaching or departmental duties. The post is based in Lund and includes doctoral training, thesis work, seminars, conferences, proposal writing for beamtime, data analysis, and some taught courses. The university notes that doctoral students are employed by Lund University and receive standard employment benefits.
Eligibility highlights: a second-cycle degree or equivalent; for Physics, an independent degree project of at least 30 higher education credits; at least one course in solid state physics or condensed matter physics; some programming experience; strong English; initiative, independence, teamwork, and good communication skills. Experience with scattering techniques is beneficial but not required.
Application deadline: 16 August 2026. Apply in English via the Varbi recruitment portal and upload your CV, personal letter, diplomas/study certificates, and any supporting documents.
