About this position
PhD opening at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in the Department of Electrical Engineering, embedded in the Biomedical Diagnostics (BM/d) lab and the Signal Processing Systems group.
The project, MOMENTUM, is an NWO-funded effort on contrast ultrasound imaging using nanobubbles for cancer diagnostics, with prostate cancer as the initial clinical focus. The successful candidate will develop pharmacokinetic models, spatiotemporal models, and signal analysis methods to turn nanobubble transport into quantitative biomarkers for tumor angiogenesis.
You will work with imaging data from lab-grown vascular models and collaborate with a fellow PhD candidate, a postdoc, a technician, and partners at TU/e, the University of Twente, Bracco, Angiogenesis Analytics, and Amsterdam UMC. Supervision is by dr. Simona Turco and prof. Massimo Mischi.
Applicants should hold a master's degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field. Strong skills in signal processing, statistical/kinetic modeling, quantitative data analysis, and programming in MATLAB and Python are expected. The post also asks for a research-oriented mindset, analytical thinking, teamwork, interest in industrial and clinical collaboration, and fluent English (C1).
This is a full-time, four-year PhD employment with an intermediate assessment after nine months. Salary is in Dutch university scale P (€3,204–€4,051 gross per month), plus holiday allowance and year-end bonus. Additional benefits include pension, leave, training, commuting/work-from-home support, and international candidate support.
Location: Eindhoven, Netherlands.
How to apply: Submit your application online via the vacancy portal. Include a cover letter, CV with publications and three references, and transcripts from both master's and bachelor's degrees. The vacancy remains open until 2026-11-06.
