About this position
PhD opportunity at Quadram Institute Bioscience through the Norwich Research Park Biosciences Doctoral Training Programme (NRPDTP) in the United Kingdom.
The project asks: How does NRP2 keep blood vessels sealed and calm under stress? It focuses on endothelial cells, vascular biology, inflammation, cell biology, and molecular mechanisms that maintain the blood vessel barrier. The student will investigate neuropilin-2 (NRP2), VE-cadherin, endothelial barrier stability, inflammatory activation, flow responses, lipid/nutrient stress, and monocyte adhesion in human and mouse endothelial cells. The project also includes work with an endothelial-specific mouse model to test vascular adaptation to dietary stress in vivo.
Training includes receptor trafficking, live-cell and confocal imaging, flow assays, inflammatory signalling, mouse genetics, vascular physiology, statistics, and data interpretation. The programme is described as a mechanistic PhD with strong preliminary data and room for the student to shape the direction of the work.
This is a fully funded 4-year studentship for October 2027 entry. Funding includes tuition fees, a living stipend (£21,805 for 2026/27), and a Research Training Support Grant of £5,000 per year. Students also complete a three-month professional internship placement (PIPS).
Eligibility includes at least a UK-equivalent Bachelor’s (Honours) 2:1 and IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each category. Applicants should be interested in cell biology, vascular biology, inflammation, and tissue health.
Applications are shortlisted for interview on 2–4 February 2027. The post directs applicants to the NRPDTP website for full eligibility and application guidance, including required Personal and Research statement templates.
