About this position

Stockholm University is advertising a PhD position in Environmental Science focused on microplastics and Arctic clouds. The project, titled Plastic in Arctic Clouds: Microplastics and their influence on ice-nucleation (PAC-MAN), investigates whether microplastics are present in Arctic clouds and how they may affect cloud microphysics, ice nucleation, and climate.

The position is hosted by the Department of Environmental Science and the Atmospheric Science Unit (ACES) at Stockholm University, a research environment with strong international links and experience in Arctic and global field measurements. The post is a doctoral employment rather than a scholarship, and it is funded by the Swedish Research Council.

Eligibility: applicants must meet general doctoral admission requirements and specific subject requirements. This includes an advanced degree or equivalent, plus at least 45 advanced-level credits in biology, chemistry, geoscience, physics, or meteorology, including a 30-credit independent project, and at least 30 additional credits in other natural science subjects. Strong English communication skills are required. Experience with atmospheric measurements, aerosol analysis (e.g. FTIR), laboratory work, data analysis/programming (e.g. Python), and fieldwork is considered advantageous.
