About this position
PhD position (36 months) at Université de Montpellier in France on “Governing the dilemmas of transition public policies”.
The project is part of KIPPT 2 (Key Initiative on Public Policies of Transition), led by Laura Michel (CEPEL, UMR 5112) and supported by France 2030. The doctoral researcher will be hosted in the supervisor’s laboratory and affiliated with a doctoral school at Université de Montpellier. The thesis is co-supervised by a supervisor from the Montpellier I-SITE and a member of the KIPPT steering committee.
The research focuses on how different transition public policies interact, create synergies or tensions, and how social and political actors identify, formalise, prioritise, and arbitrate those tensions from design to implementation. Possible empirical areas include energy, biodiversity, food, water, or land-use planning. The project contributes to nexus approaches with stronger attention to territorial and land issues, governance, and power relations.
Methods may include qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods, with a possible comparative or international perspective. The role includes empirical study, multi-site analysis, and examination of social and environmental justice issues.
Eligibility highlights: Master degree or equivalent in Economics, Political Sciences, Sociology, Juridical Sciences, Geography, or Anthropology; strong background in social sciences and public policy analysis; knowledge of ecological transition and governance; autonomy, synthesis, writing, oral communication, and scientific English.
Funding: 36-month fixed-term contract with a gross monthly salary of €2,300.
Deadline: 17 October 2026, 23:59 (Europe/Paris). Apply by email to [email protected].
