About this position

Doctoral Researcher in Human-Centred Governance of Learning AI Agents at the University of Luxembourg, within the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) and the UBIX Research Group led by Prof. Raphaël Frank.

This PhD focuses on computer science, human-AI interaction, LLM-based agents, trustworthy AI, and AI governance. The project studies how organisations can keep meaningful control over AI agents that learn from users, including when agents should take initiative, how they present choices without overwhelming users, and how to detect behavioural drift in continuously learning systems.

The research combines system building with empirical evaluation in operational industrial settings, involving real users and collaboration with academic and industrial partners. It also covers monitoring deployed AI systems, anomaly detection, learning from human feedback, and socio-technical questions around accountability and work delegation.

Funding: Full-time doctoral researcher contract for 36 months. The yearly gross salary is EUR 44,531.

Eligibility: MSc degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a related engineering discipline. Strong programming skills in Python and C/C++ are required. Excellent English is required; French, German, or Luxembourgish at B1 level is a plus. Applicants must also show at least B2-level proficiency in the language of their thesis.

How to apply: Apply online via the HR system using the official portal. Submit a CV, thesis title and summary, publication list if any, GitHub link if available, cover letter, and transcript of university-level courses. Email applications will not be considered.
