About this position

PhD position in Paris, France at LISN – Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire des Sciences du Numérique, Université Paris-Saclay, within the LaHDAK team, on Hybrid Evaluation of Natural Language Queries over Heterogeneous Data Lakes.

The project is part of the ANR TopOL project and focuses on enabling non-technical users to explore and query large heterogeneous data lakes using natural language. The thesis topic combines structured and unstructured data sources, including relational databases, CSV/JSON/XML files, RDF and property graphs, PDF and text documents, Office documents, open data portals, and external knowledge sources.

Research interests include natural language query interpretation, AMR-based graph representations, graph-based query evaluation, vector-based retrieval and RAG, reconciliation of symbolic and neural retrieval results, provenance-aware and explainable answer generation, and estimation of temporal validity of answers.

The post is especially relevant for candidates interested in computer science, data management, knowledge graphs, semantic web technologies, information retrieval, natural language processing, retrieval-augmented generation, knowledge representation, and explainable AI.

Eligibility highlights: strong background in computer science and interest in one or more of the listed areas. The doctoral school is STIC, Université Paris-Saclay. Duration is 36 months, with an expected start in 2026.
