About this position

PhD opportunity at the University of Auckland / Auckland Bioengineering Institute in Biomedical Engineering, Medical Science, and Computer Science.

This project, supervised by Dr Hayley Reynolds, focuses on lymphatic dysfunction in breast cancer-related lymphoedema (BCRL). You will work with unique imaging datasets, including lymphoscintigraphy and ICG lymphography, to compare lymphatic drainage patterns in healthy individuals, breast cancer survivors without clinical lymphoedema, and patients with established disease.

The research combines medical imaging, image processing, quantitative image analysis, statistical modelling, and machine learning to identify imaging biomarkers for disease detection, classification, progression, and severity. Depending on your interests, there is also scope to integrate imaging findings into computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models of lymphatic transport.

The post highlights translational and international collaboration, with imaging data collected by leading lymphoedema treatment centres in Australia and Boston, USA. Funding is currently listed as awaiting funding decision / possible external funding, so applicants should check the project page for updates.

Applications are accepted all year round. Interested candidates should register their interest via the FindAPhD enquiry form and wait for the university to respond directly.
