About this position

PhD opportunity at Cardiff University in the Cardiff School of Medicine on immune modulation of tonsillar Natural Killer (NK) cell immunity by Group A Streptococcus (GAS).

This project sits at the intersection of medical science, biology, immunology, and infectious disease. The human tonsils are important for generating neutralizing antibodies, yet they can also be a site where GAS persists and contributes to recurrent tonsillitis and invasive infections. The PhD student will investigate whether NK cells are functionally altered in children with recurrent GAS-associated tonsillitis and how tonsillar NK cells may suppress or impair GAS-specific antibody production.

Supervisors: Dr J McLaren and Dr Edward Wang.
