About this position
LISER (Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research) is recruiting a PhD candidate for a project on mobility, environment, and well-being within the Doctoral Training Unit C-SOS (Competitiveness within a Safe Operating Space).
The project is based in Belval, Luxembourg, and is part of an interdisciplinary consortium involving LISER, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), the University of Luxembourg, and STATEC. The successful candidate will work on the analysis of mobility and transportation patterns, urban environments and exposure patterns, and stress and well-being.
The research uses two Luxembourg-based cohort studies: FragMent (adults) and MAMBHA (older adults). These datasets include information on well-being, stress, transportation habits, environmental perceptions, map-based questionnaires on regular mobility and activity patterns, and geographically explicit ecological momentary assessment with GPS data. No new data collection is foreseen.
Applicants should have or expect to achieve a Master’s degree in geography, public health, epidemiology, transport sciences, data sciences applied to health, bioinformatics, biostatistics, or a related field. Strong quantitative methods, advanced data management and statistics, excellent English writing and speaking skills, and teamwork/initiative are expected. GIS experience is welcome but not required.
The position is a 36-month full-time PhD contract with a possible one-year extension. What's required
Applicants should have or expect to achieve a Masters degree in geography, public health, epidemiology, transport sciences, data sciences applied to health, bioinformatics, biostatistics, or another relevant discipline. Strong quantitative research skills, advanced data management and statistics skills, excellent verbal communication and academic writing in English, and the ability to work independently and in a team are required. Experience with Geographic Information Systems is desirable but not mandatory.
