About this position
Uppsala University is advertising a PhD student in Physical Chemistry with focus on perovskite solar cells at the Department of Chemistry – Ångström Laboratory in Uppsala, Sweden.
The project focuses on perovskite solar cells, a promising photovoltaic technology with high efficiency potential but ongoing stability challenges. The doctoral research will investigate ion conductivity in perovskite thin films and solar cells, study how it affects performance and stability, and develop strategies to control ion transport in perovskites.
The work includes preparing perovskite films and solar cell devices using wet-chemical deposition methods, comparing them with vapor-deposited films and devices from collaborators, and analyzing them with electrochemical techniques and advanced spectroscopies. The project is part of the SOLVE – Solar Electricity Research Centre, Sweden consortium.
This is a full-time temporary PhD position (100%). The role includes doctoral research studies, participation in third-cycle courses, and may include teaching and other departmental duties up to 20%. The successful candidate is expected to design and carry out experiments, critically analyze results, participate in workshops, and present findings at conferences and in peer-reviewed journals.
Eligibility highlights: a second-cycle degree in chemistry or a related subject with strong physical chemistry background, or equivalent higher-education qualifications; very good oral and written English; collaborative skills, drive, and independence. Prior experience with solar cells, thin film deposition, electrochemistry, and spectroscopy is desirable.
Deadline: 27 October 2026. Start date: 1 January 2027 or as agreed.
How to apply: submit a motivation letter, CV, degree certificates and transcripts, publication list including master’s thesis, two references, and answers to the application form questions via Uppsala University’s recruitment system.
