About this position
ETH Zurich is advertising a doctoral researcher position in Pulse Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR/ESR) within the Spin Dynamics and Hyperpolarisation group. The project is fully funded by a Starting Grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and is based in Zurich, Switzerland.
The research sits at the interface of method development and applied chemical spectroscopy. The successful candidate will work with a state-of-the-art pulse EPR spectrometer with arbitrary phase and amplitude control to develop new pulse sequences with improved sensitivity and higher information content. Applications include challenging systems from inorganic chemistry, catalysis, and organic radicals. The group is also developing a new method based on optical hyperpolarisation, which may later be applied to the same systems.
The work will focus on spectroscopic aspects, including experiments and spin-dynamics simulations. Depending on background, the project may also include chemical synthesis, catalysis, and quantum-chemical calculations. The working language is English.
Applicants should hold a Master's degree in (physical) chemistry or a related field by the start of the position. Required experience includes an advanced magnetic resonance technique such as EPR or solid-state NMR, plus a good understanding of the physics underlying magnetic resonance. The group also values initiative, ownership of the project, and openness to collaboration.
There is no deadline; applications are reviewed while the advertisement remains online and the position stays open until a suitable candidate is found. To apply, submit your materials through the online portal only: CV, a one-page motivation letter describing your interest in magnetic resonance, spin dynamics, and science in general, copies of available BSc/MSc diplomas or current transcripts, and contact details of two referees. Questions about the position should be directed to Prof. Nino Wili at [email protected].
