About this position
PhD opportunity in quantitative multi-tracer Total-Body PET imaging at University Hospital Tübingen, within the Total-Body PET Physics Group led by Dr Fabian Schmidt. The project is part of the PREFERENCE MSCA Doctoral Network and focuses on building the next generation of multi-tracer PET methods using the clinical Siemens Biograph Vision Quadra and long-axial field-of-view (LAFOV) PET/CT.
Research topics include low-dose same-session multi-tracer acquisition strategies, tracer separation, kinetic modelling, model-based corrections, AI-assisted denoising, image registration, and CT-free attenuation correction. The work also involves Monte Carlo simulations and clinical Total-Body PET datasets, with applications to oncological radiotracers targeting metabolism, receptor expression, and immune pathways.
Eligibility highlights: a Master's degree in physics, medical physics, biomedical engineering, computer science, medical image computing, AI, or a related field; strong analytical and programming skills; very good English; and willingness to participate in international secondments. Experience with PET or medical imaging data, reconstruction, kinetic modelling, machine learning, or image registration is an advantage. MSCA mobility rules apply.
Funding: 3-year full-time employment contract with full social security, plus a gross living allowance of €4,050/month, mobility allowance of €710/month, and family allowance of €660/month if applicable. Training includes supervision, career development, network-wide training, and secondments at King’s College London, Université Bretagne Occidentale, and DKFZ.
How to apply: send a single PDF with motivation letter, Europass CV, Master's certificates, two referees, and mobility information to Dr Fabian Schmidt at [email protected]. Deadline: 31 October 2026. Start date: as soon as possible, no later than 31 March 2027.
