About this position

Doctoral contract opportunity at the Research Institute for Development (IRD) in Toulouse, France, within the CECI laboratory and in collaboration with LEGOS and IPGP. The PhD project is part of the European SAFESEA project and focuses on regional coupled physical-biogeochemical modeling of the South East Pacific to study the variability and impacts of ocean acidification under present and future climate conditions.

The doctoral researcher will develop, parameterize, and validate a regional ocean model, run high-resolution simulations on HPC infrastructure, and analyze the spatial and temporal variability of ocean acidification, warming, and deoxygenation. The work also includes model evaluation against observations and international climate model databases, uncertainty analysis, scientific writing, conference presentations, and contributions to FAIR data and open science practices.

Required background includes a master’s degree or engineering degree (level 7) related to physical oceanography, climatology, and marine biogeochemistry. Strong skills in numerical modeling, HPC, Fortran, Python, and NetCDF tools (NCO/CDO) are requested, along with experience analyzing simulation and observational data and good scientific English.
