About this position
Uppsala University is advertising an MSCA Doctoral Student position in Secure Control Systems under Uncertainty within the SecReSy4You Doctoral Network. The project sits at the intersection of control theory, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cyber-physical systems, with a focus on designing secure and resilient control methods under strategic adversaries and probabilistic uncertainty.
The doctoral student will join the Secure Learning and Control Laboratory at the Department of Information Technology, Uppsala University, and will work with planned supervisors Associate Professor André Teixeira and Professor Christian Rohner. The research direction includes game theory, robust optimization, model-predictive control, reinforcement learning, adversary modeling, and secure monitoring/control for critical infrastructure and cyber-physical systems.
This is a PhD opening and is part of an EU-funded Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Network. The position includes international collaboration and research visits abroad of up to 6 months in total. Funding is described as a 36-month MSCA doctoral scholarship with an approximate gross salary of 37,000 SEK/month without family allowance, followed by a regular doctoral contract for the remaining study period if applicable.
Eligibility highlights include a relevant master’s degree (or equivalent credits), strong academic performance, solid knowledge of automatic control and systems theory, programming ability, excellent English, and a high-quality thesis or equivalent independent work. MSCA mobility rules apply: applicants must not have a doctoral degree and must not have lived or carried out their main activity in Sweden for more than 12 months in the 3 years before recruitment.
The application deadline is 11 September 2026. Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, transcripts and degree documents, thesis or other technical writing, and contact details for two references through Uppsala University’s recruitment system.
