About this position

Inria Saclay-Île-de-France is advertising a postdoctoral research position in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science, University College London through the UCL-Inria Joint Centre.

The project focuses on the expressivity of implicit neural networks for data-driven stability and safety certificates. Research topics include neural-network parameterizations of Lyapunov functions, smooth-to-non-smooth activation transitions, comparing feedforward and implicit neural networks under equivalent parameterization constraints, and improving training strategies for implicit neural networks.

The position is based across Inria Saclay, France and London, with the researcher expected to spend 12 months in each location. The contract is fixed-term for 2 years, with a starting date of 2026-11-02. The salary is €2,788 gross per month.

Applicants should hold a PhD in control theory, artificial intelligence, or a closely related field. Strong expertise is expected in machine learning, reinforcement learning, data-driven modeling, nonlinear control systems, Lyapunov stability analysis, optimization-based control design, and programming in Python and MATLAB. Fluency in English is required; French is an asset. A strong publication record in leading journals and conferences is also required.

Supervision is by Prof. Giorgio Valmorbida and Prof. Akin Delibasi. The researcher will organize weekly meetings, write monthly progress reports, present every 6 months, and contribute to scientific discussions; co-supervision of MSc students may be possible if funding is available.

Applications must be submitted online via the Inria job portal. The deadline to apply is 2026-10-01.
