About this position
PhD opportunity at Grenoble INP – Institute of Engineering, in Grenoble, France, focused on the security of 3D-integrated chiplets at TIMA. The thesis examines the viability of attacks against 3D chiplet systems, assesses risks, and evaluates known countermeasures, with the goal of proposing novel solutions or architectural guidelines to reduce the threat.
The research will investigate information leakage models in 3D chiplet scenarios and then move into practical attack implementation in a real-world setting. In the first year, the student will build a technical foundation in circuit design and physical security. The project then progresses to the design of near-field probes / antennas, supported by extensive simulations. In the second year, the candidate will fabricate antenna designs, collect traces, and analyze data at both circuit and information levels. The work will make use of the tools and platforms available at CIME Nanotech for design and characterization. The final year is dedicated to proposing and evaluating architectural countermeasures, writing the dissertation, and valorization.
This is a full-time, temporary PhD position starting on 15 October 2026. The application deadline is 12 October 2026 at 20:00 (Europe/Paris). The posting explicitly states that the position is not funded by an EU programme, and no specific stipend or salary details are provided in the announcement.
Applicants should hold an engineering degree or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related area. Desired skills include physical attacks, integrated circuit design, RF knowledge, adaptability, willingness to learn, and teamwork. English proficiency is required.
