About this position
PhD opportunity in microelectronics and hardware security at Grenoble INP - Institute of Engineering in France.
The project is part of the ANR GALAXI initiative (Global and Local Advanced Attacks through X-Ray Irradiation), coordinated by TIMA with partners including CEA-Leti, SIMaP, LCIS, LabHC and Mines Saint-Étienne. The PhD is carried out within the work package on detection and countermeasures against X-ray attacks and multimodal physical attacks.
Research topics include designing robust sensors to detect X-ray exposure even when the device is powered off, exploring structures sensitive to total ionizing dose or laser, and developing mechanisms that can record and report an attack at restart. A second axis focuses on evaluating and creating countermeasures such as masking, hiding, redundancy, and FPGA-prototyped protections resistant to transient and permanent effects.
Relevant study areas and keywords: electronic engineering, microelectronics, hardware security, FPGA, VHDL/Verilog, fault injection, side-channel analysis, device physics, semiconductors, MOS devices.
Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a Master degree or equivalent, have digital design and FPGA prototyping skills, understand physical attack models, and have a good scientific English level.
Application deadline: 14 October 2026 at 20:00 (Europe/Paris). Applications must be sent by email to [email protected]. The post also references an Euraxess listing for further details.
