About this position
PhD position in Spatiotemporal Integrated Metamaterials at Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands. This project focuses on nonreciprocal photonics and the design of dynamically modulated, chip-scale metamaterials for nonreciprocal light control. The research is part of the SPARK Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network and is embedded in the Photonic Integration group within the Department of Electrical Engineering.
The successful candidate will work on theoretical and numerical design of time-varying structures, on-chip fabrication with advanced nanolithography, and experimental demonstration of nonreciprocal light transport. The long-term goal is to integrate these metamaterials into photonic circuits for applications in optical communication and quantum technologies. The project offers close collaboration across design, fabrication, and characterization, and includes secondments at INESC MN and PICadvanced in Portugal.
Supervision includes Prof. M. Piccardo at INESC MN, with contact at TU/e provided by Humeyra Caglayan. The role is suitable for motivated candidates with a master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Optics, Applied Physics, Materials Engineering, or a related field, plus a strong research orientation, teamwork skills, interest in industrial collaboration, and fluent English at C1 level.
The appointment is a full-time PhD for four years with an intermediate assessment after nine months. The post is EU-funded and comes with a salary under Dutch university scale P, including holiday allowance and year-end bonus, as well as standard TU/e benefits and training support.
