About this position
PhD opportunity at Queen Mary University of London (William Harvey Research Institute) in specialised pro-resolving mediators (SPMs), haematopoiesis, rheumatoid arthritis, and cardiovascular disease.
This project investigates how chronic inflammatory disease alters bone-marrow output and whether SPMs can restore balanced haematopoietic stem and progenitor-cell activity, reduce inflammatory myeloid-cell production, and identify biomarkers of altered haematopoiesis. The research sits at the interface of immunology, haematology, molecular biology, cell biology, and pharmacology, with strong translational relevance to inflammatory disease and cardiovascular injury.
Training includes isolation and phenotyping of haematopoietic stem/progenitor cells, multiparameter flow cytometry, colony-forming assays, bone-marrow and myeloid-differentiation models, experimental arthritis and cardiovascular disease models, SPM pharmacology, transcriptomic profiling, and biomarker development.
Applicants should have, or expect to obtain by October 2026, a Master’s degree (or equivalent) that allows doctoral enrolment at QMUL. A background in immunology, haematology, cell biology, pharmacology, or molecular medicine is desirable, and experience with flow cytometry, primary-cell culture, or molecular biology is an advantage. Candidates must be proficient in English and meet the MSCA mobility rule.
