About this position
PhD opportunity at Queen Mary University of London / William Harvey Research Institute in resomelagon, rheumatoid arthritis, and cardiovascular comorbidities.
This project investigates how the clinical-stage melanocortin receptor agonist resomelagon may reduce inflammatory arthritis while also improving cardiovascular outcomes linked to rheumatoid arthritis. The research will examine anti-arthritic effects, systemic immune responses, immune-cell trafficking, macrophage reprogramming, resolution mechanisms, and biomarkers associated with therapeutic response and cardiovascular benefit.
Students will gain hands-on training in translational pharmacology, experimental arthritis and cardiovascular models, macrophage phenotyping, specialised pro-resolving mediator analysis, biomarker development, and PK/PD-informed drug-development strategies. The project is designed for candidates interested in moving resolution pharmacology toward patient benefit.
Eligible applicants should have, or expect to obtain by October 2026, a Master’s degree or equivalent that allows doctoral enrolment at QMUL. A background in pharmacology, immunology, clinical science, biotechnology, or translational medicine is preferred. Applicants must be proficient in English and meet the MSCA mobility rule (not having lived or carried out their main activity in the UK for more than 12 months in the previous 36 months).
This is a fully funded Doctoral Candidate position in the HARPNET Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Network, with an employment contract and applicable living and mobility allowances; family allowances may apply if eligible.
