About this position
HIPOLE Jena is advertising a PhD student (m/f/d) position in Sustainable Polymer Materials and Electrochemical Energy Storage in Jena, Germany. The project sits in sustainable polymer chemistry and focuses on the development of organic and polymeric functional materials for electrochemical energy storage, with an emphasis on controlled molecular and macromolecular design, structure-property-function relationships, resource efficiency, circularity, and material reuse.
The successful candidate will work on the synthesis of novel materials, the development and optimization of polymerization and synthetic methods, comprehensive structural/spectroscopic/chromatographic/thermal characterization, and electrochemical evaluation in relevant energy-storage systems. Eligibility highlights: a master’s degree in chemistry, polymer chemistry, materials science, or a comparable field; strong experience in organic chemistry and/or polymer chemistry; interest in novel polymerization and synthetic methodologies; experience with analytical methods for polymer and materials characterization; and knowledge of or strong interest in electrochemistry and electrochemical energy storage. Practical battery-cell experience is an advantage. Very good written and spoken English is required.
Funding and contract: fixed-term appointment for 36 months, with salary according to the German public sector collective agreement (TVöD-Bund).
