About this position
PhD opportunity at Leibniz IFW Dresden, Germany in twisted 2D superconductors for quantum hardware.
The project is hosted at the Superpuddles Lab at Leibniz IFW Dresden, in synergy with the QTLab at the University of Naples Federico II. The research explores how stacking and twisting quantum materials can engineer new superconducting states, with a focus on ultraclean twisted superconducting interfaces, including cuprates and layered superconductors.
Students will gain hands-on experience in inert-atmosphere and ultra-high-vacuum assembly of 2D materials, cryogenic stacking and nanofabrication, low-temperature transport, Josephson-junction measurements, and spectroscopy of quantum materials. This is a strong fit for candidates interested in experimental condensed matter physics, quantum materials, and quantum technology.
Eligibility: applicants should hold a master’s degree in physics, engineering, or quantum science and technology. The post also asks for a strong interest in experimental research and good communication skills in English.
Funding: the position is paid at TV-L E13, 65%.
Location: Dresden, Germany.
Deadline: December 2026.
Start date: expected January–February 2027.
For enquiries and application details, contact Dr. Golam Haider and Prof. Nicola Poccia by email. The poster also notes that applicants based in India may be able to meet in person in Kolkata from 23–28 October 2026 if arranged in advance.
