About this position

This PhD position at Eindhoven University of Technology is part of the SecReSy4You MSCA Doctoral Network, focusing on hybrid physics-ML anomaly detection, risk assessment, and attack-tolerant control with probabilistic guarantees for networked cyber-physical systems (NCPSs). The Dynamics and Control group at TU/e is renowned for its research in high-tech industry applications, particularly within the Brainport region, and offers a balanced education and research program combining fundamental and applied aspects.

The SecReSy4You network unites 10 doctoral candidates across leading European universities and industrial partners, fostering a collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment. The PhD candidate will participate in international secondments, training schools, workshops, and demonstrators, gaining exposure to both academic and industrial settings and building a professional network in cyber-physical systems security.

Research objectives include developing data-driven nonlinear control strategies under uncertainty, embedding learning algorithms (such as stochastic gradient methods and Bayesian updates) into control design, designing attack-tolerant and resilient controllers, establishing probabilistic guarantees on stability, safety, and performance using RKHS-based methods and stochastic analysis, and creating anomaly detection tools to complement control strategies. The project emphasizes tightly integrated approaches combining control, learning, and uncertainty quantification to address complex, time-evolving performance degradation in modern CPSs.

Applicants should have a master’s degree in systems and control, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or applied mathematics, with a strong background in mathematical systems and control theory. Proficiency in Matlab or Python, interest in hybrid dynamical systems and cyber security, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are required. Fluency in English is mandatory.

Employment conditions include a four-year full-time contract, intermediate assessment after nine months, teaching tasks (10–15% of employment), salary scale P (€3,059–€3,881/month), year-end bonus (8.3%), annual vacation pay (8%), pension scheme, paid pregnancy and maternity leave, partially paid parental leave, high-quality training programs, excellent technical infrastructure, on-campus childcare and sports facilities, commuting and home-working allowances, and a tax compensation scheme (30% facility) for international candidates.

To apply, submit a cover letter, CV with publications, and contact information for three references via the online application link. Only complete applications will be considered. The vacancy remains open until filled, with a deadline of May 8, 2026. For further information, contact Dr. Carlos Murguia ([email protected]) or HR Advice ([email protected]).

Join TU/e’s vibrant academic community in Brainport Eindhoven, a world-leading tech region, and contribute to cutting-edge research in cyber-physical systems security and resilience.
