About this position

Postdoctoral position at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in the Department of Electrical Engineering within the UTOPYS project, a Dutch Research Council (NWO)-funded Large-Scale Research Infrastructure initiative focused on building a real-time electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulator for future power systems.

The role centers on real-time EMT modelling of future MV/LV distribution systems, including development, validation, and simulation of realistic reference models assembled from the TU/e component library. Research topics include grid-operator assets, protection schemes and coordination, DSO operating paradigms, voltage and congestion management, reconfiguration, curtailment, flexibility, ancillary services, frequency control, voltage/reactive power control, black start, and fault ride through.

This postdoc is part of a consortium of Dutch universities and research institutes, with access to advanced facilities such as real-time power-hardware-in-the-loop simulators in the EES Smart Grid Lab at TU/e and the Electrical Sustainable Power Lab at TU Delft. The work aims to support new mathematical frameworks, control strategies, and market designs for stable, fair, and resilient future grids.

Eligibility: PhD in electrical power engineering or a comparable domain; strong academic research record; ability to coach PhD and Master's students; project management experience; excellent English; communication and leadership skills.

Funding and terms: Full-time employment for 2 years. Salary scale 10: €4,422 to €5,760 gross per month, plus holiday allowance and year-end bonus. Additional benefits include pension, training, leave, commuting/work-from-home support, and relocation assistance.
