About this position

Lílian Caesar, Assistant Professor at the University of Oklahoma, is recruiting PhD students for the Caesar Lab starting Fall 2027.

The lab studies how host-associated microbiomes assemble, function, and evolve, using social bees as a model system. Research interests include microbiome science, microbial ecology, evolution, bioinformatics, comparative genomics, ecological modeling, phylogenomics, programming, microbiology, molecular biology, microbial culturing, and experimental host–microbe interactions.

Students may lean toward computational work or wet-lab work, or combine both. Prior experience is not required; curiosity, quantitative thinking, and enthusiasm for learning are highly valued.

The application deadline is December 1, 2026. Interested students are encouraged to contact the PI before applying and to follow the graduate program link for more information.

What's required

Prior experience is not required. The post emphasizes curiosity, quantitative thinking, and enthusiasm for learning. Students interested in computational approaches (microbiome data analysis, bioinformatics, comparative genomics, ecological modeling, phylogenomics, programming) or wet-lab approaches (microbiology, microbial ecology, molecular biology, microbial culturing, experimental host-microbe interactions) are encouraged to apply.

How to apply

Interested students should review the linked graduate program information and contact Lílian Caesar before applying. Submit the application by December 1, 2026.
