About this position

2-year postdoctoral position at the University of Copenhagen, Department of Biology, Faculty of Science, in the area of modeling of microbial soil carbon cycling. The project is a genome-informed microbial biogeochemical modeling postdoc focused on quantifying microbial traits from metagenomes and using them to develop a microbial-explicit version of the dynamic vegetation model LPJ-GUESS.

You will join the Center of Excellence VOLT (Center for Volatile interactions), working with microbial ecologists, biogeochemists, and ecosystem modelers. The role combines microbial ecology, bioinformatics, metagenomics, computational structural biology, protein function prediction, and ecosystem modeling. The group offers laboratory facilities, bioinformatics pipelines, and access to supercomputing resources for analyses of microbial communities and biogeochemical fluxes.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a PhD in computational biology, environmental sciences, or a related field. A strong background in environmental microbial ecology and bioinformatics is required, together with experience in advanced statistical analyses and programming in R, Python, or similar languages. Experience with process-based modeling is an advantage. Strong English communication and writing skills, supported by a publication record, are expected.

Funding/employment: this is a salaried postdoctoral appointment under Danish academic employment agreements; salary supplement negotiation is possible. No stipend amount is listed.

Application deadline: 15 November 2026, 23:59 CET. Start date: 1 February 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.

How to apply: submit the application in English through the online APPLY NOW portal. Include a cover letter, CV (max 2 pages), diplomas (Master and PhD or equivalent), a research plan (max 3 pages), complete publication list, 3 relevant reprints, and contact details for 2 professional referees.
