About this position

PhD opportunity at the University of North Carolina Wilmington in the Integrative and Comparative Biology PhD program, hosted by the Animal eVolution & Ecology Lab (WAVE Lab) in the Department of Biology & Marine Biology.

The project focuses on animal color ecology, camouflage ecology, animal ecology, and evolution, with an emphasis on hypotheses of camouflage in mammals and birds. The lab’s broader research interests include evolutionary and ecological theory, behavioral ecology, wildlife biology, field experiments, museum collections, long-term monitoring, and statistical modeling.

The ideal applicant will have strong quantitative and technical skills, including experience with hyperspectral equipment, plus molecular biology skills and prior research experience. The position is for an in-person PhD start in January 2027 (somewhat flexible), with no remote option.
