About this position

PhD position at Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH in Brainergy Park Jülich, Germany on analytical detection of green hydrogen and hydrogen carriers using trace analysis.

The position is embedded in the Institute for a Sustainable Hydrogen Economy (IHE), specifically the Reaction Engineering for Chemical Hydrogen Storage Division (IHE-3). The project focuses on the hydrogen economy, green hydrogen verification, hydrogen carriers such as ammonia and methane, and the development of instrumental analytical methods for gas composition measurements.

Research tasks include developing and establishing methods such as thermodesorption-coupled gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (TD-GC-MS) and proton transfer reaction time-of-flight mass spectrometry (PTR-TOF-MS), performing experimental and model-based analysis of relevant processes, collaborating with partners in the green hydrogen economy, publishing results, presenting at conferences, and supporting sample acquisition and institute setup activities.

Eligibility highlights: a completed master's degree in chemistry (especially analytical or physical chemistry), experimental physics, or a related field with a focus on instrumental analysis; strong experience in instrumental analytical chemistry and mass spectrometry is preferred; knowledge of hydrogen and energy research is a plus; very good English (B2 or higher) is required.

Funding: paid doctoral employment at TVöD-Bund pay group 13 (75%) for 3 years, with year-end bonus and capital-forming benefits.

Application: submit via the online application system on the job posting page. The vacancy remains open until filled.
