About this position

PhD position in cellular development is available at the Center for Plant Molecular Biology (ZMBP), University of Tübingen, Germany. The project is in a newly established group studying the structural basis of molecular-complex changes during cellular transitions, with a focus on cellular development at high resolution.

The research uses cutting-edge imaging and analysis methods, including volumetric electron microscopy (EM), cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET), and state-of-the-art image segmentation. This is a strong fit for candidates interested in cell biology, plant molecular biology, microscopy, structural biology, and computational analysis.

Applicants should have an MSc in Biology or Biochemistry with prior knowledge in electron microscopy (cryo-EM or cryo-ET). The call also welcomes candidates with an MSc or equivalent in computational sciences such as physics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, or computational biology, especially those motivated to work across disciplines. Prior experience in plant biology or development is not required.

The position is fixed term for four years and is paid at E13 TV-L, 65% salary. The post is based at the University of Tübingen science campus in Tübingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, within a collaborative environment at ZMBP with access to advanced cryo-microscopes and cryo-ET data-processing expertise.

To apply, submit a single PDF containing a motivation letter and CV to the listed email address by 16 October 2026. For more information, contact Juan Carlos De la Concepcion via email, LinkedIn, or Bluesky.
