About this position
PhD position in Edge AI Workload Orchestration at the Chair of Software and Business Engineering, Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin).
The project is part of AEGIS (Grid-Aware AI Workload Mobility for the Computing Continuum) and focuses on distributed systems, edge computing, cloud computing, middleware, and AI workload mobility. The successful candidate will develop grid-aware middleware for orchestrating AI workloads across the edge-cloud continuum, including stateful migration of workloads, runtime switching between AI model variants, and security-policy enforcement during migration.
The position is a Research Assistant / PhD Student role, full-time for 36 months, with remuneration according to TV-L E13. The post is financed (“Full promotion”) and includes the opportunity to pursue a doctorate in an international research network, with research visits at Deutsche Telekom and Lund University in Sweden.
Eligibility highlights: a very good Master’s/Diplom (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Informatics, Business Informatics, or a related field; strong interest in scientific research; knowledge of distributed systems; excellent English, writing, and communication skills. MSCA mobility rules apply: no doctoral degree at recruitment and no long-term residence or main activity in Germany for more than 12 months in the 36 months before recruitment.

What's required
Applicants should have a very good university degree (Master, Diplom, or equivalent) in Computer Science, Informatics, Business Informatics, or a related discipline. Required or strongly preferred qualifications include knowledge of distributed systems, very good English language skills, very good scientific communication and writing skills, and the ability and motivation to conduct independent, goal-oriented research. Experience in implementing and evaluating methods, translating business requirements into technical and functional requirements, and collaborating with external project partners is desirable. MSCA eligibility applies: applicants must not already hold a doctoral degree and must not have lived or carried out their main activity in Germany for more than 12 months during the 36 months before recruitment.
