About this position

Hannover Medical School is advertising a PhD position in the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Infectious Diseases and Endocrinology within the DFG-funded RTG 2978 research training group.

The project is based in the research group of PD Dr. Anna Saborowski and focuses on gastrointestinal cancer, especially biliary tract cancer, precision medicine, and the drug-tolerant persister state. The doctoral project combines translational research with mechanistic studies using in vitro and in vivo models, and integrates functional, transcriptomic, and epigenetic profiling to identify therapeutic vulnerabilities and rational combination treatments.

The RTG 2978 is a collaborative consortium established by the University Medical Center Göttingen and Hannover Medical School under the Comprehensive Cancer Center Lower Saxony. Trainees benefit from a structured qualification program, thesis advisory committee supervision, mentoring, lab rotations, and a highly collaborative research environment.

Eligibility highlights include a Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biology, Biochemistry, Data Sciences, Bioinformatics, or a related equivalent degree; experience with relevant research methods is appreciated; and advanced English (C1) is expected. The role also requires data analysis and bioinformatics skills, plus a collaborative mindset.

This is a temporary, part-time research position with compensation up to E13 TV-L depending on qualifications. The application deadline is 2026-08-30.
