About this position
PhD position at the University of Basel, Switzerland, in generative modeling for human development and disease. The project focuses on computational biology and bioinformatics methods for single-cell genomics and spatial genomics data from sequencing and imaging.
Research directions include: cell–cell communication modeling beyond ligand–receptor analysis; joint models of regulation and dynamics using flow-based and diffusion-based approaches; and intervention design plus continual learning for lab-in-the-loop biological modeling. The work builds on tools and prior work such as scVelo, CellRank, CellRank 2, moslin, moscot, and RegVelo, and involves collaboration with hospitals, universities, and institutes in Basel.
Required background: an MSc in computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering, computational biology, or a related quantitative field; hands-on experience with biological data; strong Python skills; experience with PyTorch or JAX; statistical grounding; a GitHub account with code; and fluent English. Desirable experience includes single-cell or spatial genomics and open-source scientific software contributions.
