About this position
Technical University of Munich (TUM), Thermo-Fluid Dynamics Group, Dept. of Engineering Physics and Computation, is advertising a Doctoral Student Position (m/f/d) in the HyNOISE project: Quiet Hydrogen Combustion.
The project focuses on hydrogen combustion, thermoacoustic instabilities, combustion noise, flashback, ignition, and stability in hydrogen-fueled combustion systems. The research combines fluid mechanics, acoustics, combustion, control engineering, nonlinear dynamics, and data-driven modeling / machine learning, with scientific computing and numerical simulation.
HyNOISE is an MSCA Doctoral Network involving 12 European research institutions and aims to develop tools and models for quieter, more stable hydrogen combustion technologies for future power generation and propulsion. The position is based at TUM and offers an international research environment with collaboration across Europe and industry partners.
Eligibility: a university Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Applied or Numerical Mathematics, or a related field; excellent academic performance; very good English; strong motivation for independent research; and background in one or more of combustion, fluid mechanics, acoustics, control engineering, dynamic systems, or scientific computing. Experience with OpenFOAM, Python, Matlab, or similar tools is preferred. EC mobility rules apply: applicants must not have resided in Germany for more than 12 months in the last three years.
Funding: full-time 3-year research contract with PhD opportunity; salary around 36,000 EUR/year plus possible travel and mobility allowances under European Commission rules.
