PhD position in Logistics with focus on Intelligent Procurement Molde University College in Norway

Molde University College (HiMolde) is advertising a PhD position in logistics with focus on intelligent procurement within the Faculty of Logistics in Norway. The project sits at the intersection of logistics, supply chain management, procurement, artificial intelligence, sustainability, and information systems, with a strong applied focus on how enterprises can use AI to improve procurement performance, decision-making, resilience, and sustainability.

The research challenge highlighted in the call asks how organizations can leverage intelligent procurement to strengthen operational performance, managerial decision-making, and sustainability objectives. The project will be carried out in close cooperation with regional industrial partners and is intended to contribute to knowledge development, industrial innovation, and capacity building in this emerging area. Relevant themes include supplier relationship management, contract management, category management, circular procurement, supplier sustainability assessment, inventory imbalances, procurement risks, supply disruptions, data inconsistencies, and Digital Product Passports.

Applicants should hold a strong master’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Information Systems, or a closely related field. Interdisciplinary profiles combining business and digital technologies are especially encouraged. The call also asks for a minimum average grade of B or better on the ECTS scale (or equivalent), a master’s degree of at least 60 ECTS including an individual academic work component such as a thesis, and strong English skills. Because the position involves collaboration with Norwegian-speaking stakeholders, Scandinavian language proficiency at CEFR A2 or above is required. Knowledge of data analytics and AI/ML is desirable, and Python or R skills are an advantage.

The appointment is for 3–4 years. A 4-year appointment includes 25% working duty such as teaching, supervision, or administrative tasks. The salary starts at NOK 550,800 gross per year, with standard pension deductions, and a higher salary may be considered for especially qualified candidates.
