About this position

PhD opportunity in Magnetic Materials at VIT Vellore

The Magnetic Materials Group (MMG) at VIT Vellore is inviting applications for a Doctoral Researcher / PhD Scholar to work in magnetic materials, physics, and materials science. The project spans functional and advanced magnets such as soft and hard magnetic materials, ferrites, high-entropy alloys, and rare-earth-free permanent magnets.

Research directions include spintronics, magnetocaloric cooling materials, and energy storage/conversion. The role also involves magnetic property measurements (VSM, SQUID), structural characterization (XRD, FE-SEM, TEM), and transport/dielectric spectroscopy.

Eligible applicants should hold an M.Sc., M.Tech., or M.E. in Physics, Materials Science, Nanoscience, Nanotechnology, Applied Physics, or a related field. Strong foundations in solid-state physics, materials chemistry, or condensed matter physics are preferred, and prior experience with magnetic characterization or synthesis techniques is a plus.

The post emphasizes a collaborative academic environment, access to advanced synthesis and characterization facilities, and support for conference participation, networking, and career development. The application route is through the VITREE 2027 PhD Programme for the January session.

Location: Vellore, India.
