The Paerl Lab in the Department of Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences (MEAS) is recruiting a fully funded PhD student for a NOAA ECOHAB-funded project on the formation and persistence of brown tide (Aureoumbra lagunensis) in South Texas coastal waters, in collaboration with Texas A&M University and NC State.

Research interests include marine microbial ecology, algal blooms, B-vitamin analyses, seawater sample processing, laboratory algal culture work, field sampling, and environmental drivers of coastal bloom dynamics.

Funding: 3 years of Research Assistantship support. The position is based in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Eligibility: BS or MS in Biology, Ecology, Oceanography, Microbiology, (Bio)Chemistry, or a related field. Helpful experience includes marine ecosystems, HABs, analytical chemistry, algal cultivation, data analysis, and scientific writing.
