About this position

PhD position in biological sciences focused on the myotendinous junction (MTJ), a mechanically important region of skeletal muscle that is highly prone to injury during exercise.

The project is hosted by Inserm U1258 at IGBMC in Illkirch, France, and is linked to a Horizon Europe / ERC-funded research environment.

The lab has developed a new tool to manipulate the MTJ domain and has already identified a local translational program and exercise-induced rewiring. The successful candidate will investigate the molecular mechanisms that control this specialised translation program.

The work combines candidate-driven and unbiased approaches. Planned research includes generating mouse mutants for candidate RNA-binding proteins, analysing their phenotypes, studying the local translatome after mutation, identifying binding partners, and performing biochemical pull-down experiments using affinity-tagged UTRs.

The position is well suited to a student interested in skeletal muscle biology, RNA biology, translation control, and experimental mouse work. The project involves a mix of genetics, histology, imaging, physiological phenotyping, biochemistry, mass spectrometry, and NGS-based analyses.

Applicants should hold a Master degree or equivalent in biological sciences, with strong practical experience or willingness to develop expertise in mouse genetics, muscle phenotyping, and molecular/biochemical methods. Excellent English and good communication, independence, and teamwork are important.

The position is full-time and temporary, with one vacancy available. Deadline: 20 October 2026. Applications should be sent by email to [email protected].
