About this position

PhD position at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in Nanomedicine Formulation Engineering for Cancer Treatment.

This project is part of SPARC (Scalable Personalized Nanotherapeutics for Cancer Treatment) and focuses on developing lipid-based drug delivery nanoparticles for personalized cancer therapy, especially for hard-to-treat “cold tumors.” The research combines molecular modeling and experimental validation to design and optimize externally triggerable lipid nanomedicines.

You will work between the Precision Therapeutics group (Dr. Alina Rwei) in the Department of Chemical Engineering and the Complex Fluid Processing group (Prof. Johan Padding) in the Department of Process & Energy. The project includes coarse-grained molecular dynamics (CGMD), nanoparticle stability analysis, ultrasound-triggered release studies, and validation in biologically relevant settings such as tumor-on-chip platforms and in vivo models.

The role is embedded in an academic-industrial network with collaborators including Merck KGaA and Johnson & Johnson. It is a strong fit for candidates interested in nanomedicine, chemical engineering, pharmaceutical sciences, biomedical engineering, and computational-experimental research.

Eligibility: MSc or equivalent in Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physical Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Nanotechnology, or a related field. Strong English skills, an analytical mindset, and the ability to work across computational and experimental domains are required; experience with lipid nanoparticle formulations or CGMD is a plus.

Funding: 4-year doctoral employment, salary €3059–€3881 gross/month plus holiday allowance and end-of-year bonus.
