About this position

PhD position in Operando Neuromorphic Opto-Electronics at the University of Twente in the Netherlands.

This project focuses on polymer-based electronics and in-situ optical sensing to non-invasively inspect, understand, and improve device stability and performance. The research combines conductive polymers, device fabrication, and advanced characterization using UV-Vis spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS).

You will investigate hidden processes such as interfacial charge transfer, redox switching, doping and dedoping, morphology dynamics, and local electric field effects. The project also includes modeling electrical and optical inputs and responses for energy-efficient computing as a proof of concept.

The work is embedded in the Hybrid Materials for Opto-electronics group with Dr. Ivana Qianqi Lin and Prof. Christian Nijhuis, and in collaboration with Prof. Frederik Wurm in the Sustainable Polymer Chemistry group. The position is also connected to the MESA+ Institute, NanoLab, the Department of Applied NanoPhotonics, and the Centre for Brain-Inspired Computing.

This is a PhD opening for candidates interested in materials science, physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, and neuromorphic optoelectronics. The post does not mention a scholarship programme or fee waiver. Deadline: 08 Nov 2026.
