About this position

Tu Delft is advertising a postdoc in battery health assessment for energy storage systems within the DC Systems, Energy Conversion and Storage (DCE&S) group at the Department of Electrical Sustainable Energy.

The project focuses on developing next-generation battery diagnostics for large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS). You will combine electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), data-driven modelling, artificial intelligence, and power electronics to create robust methods for battery health assessment and degradation monitoring. The work aims to bridge laboratory battery diagnostics with practical industrial BESS applications, including the use of impedance measurements under real operating conditions and integration with operational data.

The project is carried out in collaboration with Sungrow, offering an interface between academic research and industrial battery storage technology. The successful candidate will collaborate with researchers and engineers at TU Delft and the industrial partner, and contribute to scientific publications and dissemination of results.

Eligibility highlights: a PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from a well-established university; strong background in battery management systems, battery ageing, battery diagnostics, and power electronics; experience with EIS or other frequency-domain battery characterization techniques; experimental battery testing and measurement-data analysis; and programming/data analysis skills in Python, MATLAB, or similar tools. Good English communication skills are required.

Funding and conditions: this is a 1-year temporary postdoc position, 38-40 hours per week, with salary and benefits according to the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. TU Delft also mentions pension coverage, flexible working, training opportunities, and other employment benefits.

Application deadline: 27 October 2026. Apply online via AcademicTransfer and upload a CV, a motivational letter addressed to Dr. Zian Qin, and proof of PhD degree or defense date. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so early application is encouraged.
