About this position
PhD position in Organic Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen, in the research group led by Associate Professor Jiwoong Lee.
The project is part of “CO2 Capture using organic materials in aqueous systems”, funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation CO2 Research Center (CORC). The research focuses on the design, synthesis, and evaluation of organic materials for CO2 capture in aqueous systems, including scalable absorbents/adsorbents, waste-plastic-derived materials, and bio-based sustainable organic compounds. The work also explores functionalization for downstream biological and chemical CO2 conversion applications.
Ideal applicants hold an MSc in Chemistry with specialization in organic chemistry and/or organic synthesis. Strong written and spoken English is required. The post values excellent synthetic skills, 2-3 years of lab experience, independence, scientific excellence, and motivation for mission-driven research with real-world applications. Experience in CO2 chemistry, CO2 capture, CO2 utilization, or polymer chemistry is highly valued, as is familiarity with GPC, NMR, solid-state NMR, TGA, DSC, and gas sorption. Teaching duties are part of the PhD role.
The position is a 3-year full-time PhD fellowship under the regular 5+3 PhD scheme, conditional on enrolment in the PhD School at the Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen. Funding details
