About this position

University of Hohenheim is advertising a Research Associate / PhD Student position in peptide signaling for robust seed development within the specialty area of Quality of plant products – Viticulture. The project is embedded in the GreenRobust Cluster of Excellence and is jointly supervised by the Institute of Biology.

The research focuses on plant development, seed development, germination, stress physiology, and molecular biology. Planned work includes investigation of the function of SPI1 in Arabidopsis thaliana, analysis of seed filling and storage protein formation under heat stress, studies of subtilisin-mediated processes and phloem gating, phenotypic and developmental characterization of CRISPR/Cas mutants and complementation lines, microscopic analysis of nutrient flow in developing seeds, RNA-seq analyses, and comparative studies in barley. Depending on project progress, the role may also include functional analysis of barley SPI homologs using CRISPR/Cas.

Applicants should have a completed university degree in biology, agricultural sciences, plant sciences, biochemistry, or a related field. The post asks for interest in plant research on development, molecular biology, and stress physiology, plus initial experience in at least one of the following: plant molecular biology, microscopy, protein biochemistry, or gene expression analysis. Good English skills and an independent, meticulous, team-oriented working style are required.

The position starts on January 1, 2027, is paid up to E13 TV-L, has a 65% workload, and is limited until 31.12.2029. The work location is Stuttgart-Hohenheim, Germany.
