About this position

This doctoral position is embedded in the Cluster of Excellence GreenRobust and is jointly supervised with the Department of Soil Biology. The project uses a trait-based ecological perspective to study how root-associated microbes influence floral attractiveness and plant reproduction under drought conditions, linking above- and belowground plant ecology.
Research topics and methods: greenhouse experiments; floral trait measurements; reproductive output; floral scent analysis; hand-pollination treatments; pollinator preference assays; root trait and exudate analyses; rhizosphere microbiome profiling; amplicon sequencing; statistical analysis; literature synthesis; publication and conference presentation.
Eligibility: a Master's or Diploma in biology, ecology, plant sciences, agricultural sciences, or a comparable field. The post values experience with greenhouse or field experiments, molecular methods or analytical chemistry, strong R skills, and interest in bioinformatic processing of multivariate data. English fluency, independence, reliability, and teamwork are emphasized.

What's required
Applicants need a Master's or Diploma in biology, ecology, plant sciences, agricultural sciences or a comparable field. Strong interest in above- and belowground plant ecology, trait-based ecology, pollination biology and soil microbiology is required. Experience with greenhouse or field experiments is an advantage, as is laboratory experience in molecular methods or analytical chemistry. Good statistical skills, experience with R, and interest in bioinformatic processing of multivariate data such as spectroscopic or amplicon sequencing data are expected. Applicants should work independently, be well organized, reliable during intensive experimental phases, work well in interdisciplinary teams, and be fluent in English spoken and written.
